Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

I’ve traveled for over twenty years to all 7 continents and over 50 countries. I enjoy the new experiences, history, and a mix of different people along the way. However, a significant reason why I crave travel is I just feel BETTER when I’m outside of my typical routine. Below are the 4 lessons I learned while traveling that have elevated my everyday life.
Vulnerability brings closer connections
In my typical life I don’t often let people in or truly express myself. Do you ever have that inner fear that you will say too much? I do and this fear digs back into being bullied in middle school and hiding out during lunch. However, when I travel, I am more open to truly connect. It feels less risky since if someone doesn’t like me while traveling it is unlikely will need to interact again. I also discovered that other people are more open and quicker to break past that first barrier when they are not in their comfort zone. This adjustment makes it much easier to take that connection to the next level.
I play with this concept in my everyday life by not getting fixated on a specific experience and taking those friendship risks. The more that I am vulnerable the deeper my newer relationships develop since they are based on depth, not superficial elements.
Talking about your diabetes management improves your experience
My first experience being completely honest about my diabetes management was on an international vacation. Before this adjustment I would often hide my injections under tables and not let anyone know I wasn’t feeling my best. If traveling with a group it is important to let someone else know your needs as well as what they should do if you have a medical challenge. During one trip I was even more open about living with diabetes (instead of just whispering to the tour manager!). This decision allowed me to not only improve my diabetes management but removed a worrier barrier allowing me to have an overall better journey. I took that experience when I got back home and started being more open about my challenges (and successes) with diabetes. You can easily implement this adjustment into your life and I owe my improved health to this change.
Open energy unlocks new experiences in travel and your daily life
This is major! I believe in the incredible power of energy. When I travel, I am more likely to say yes to trying out something new. This domino effects opens up more and more doors. People are more likely to seek me out and bring those new experiences to me. When I am just wandering around NYC, I am sometimes closed off which blocks those new, incredible experiences. I have tested this energy shift and it does make a huge difference. As the world opens again, I want to embrace this new, open feeling and go to all of the NYC events. No need to overwhelm yourself but try it out and see what happens!
Let it go!
This last tip is quick but life changing. Just let it go! Getting caught up in something just drags your energy down. When something goes awry on a trip, which can often happen you just have to make an adjustment. Otherwise, you could dampen your mood when you could be having an incredible time. There is no point on dwelling on a vacation or at home so keep on moving!
